Peefer asks, Who is your best friend?
The silence stretches from room to room, unfurling itself like tendrils grasping for anything to hold onto, filling every nook and cranny to overflowing. A lifetime ago there would have been no space to fill, no room between skin and skin pressed so tightly together, like dressing on a wound, like graft to a burn. A lifetime ago we were healing; now we're just pulling apart.
Like the tides these last few years have ebbed and flowed, and as the moon's orbit loops further and further away until one day it will swing off into outer space, lost, forever, so we've danced as well. With every step forward comes two, three steps back. So far we'll get one day we'll be lost ourselves, if we're not lost now. Are we lost now? Who is even there to hear this question?
My best friend is conspicuously absent.

I'm going to tag you with a tiny GPS next time I see you. You'll never be lost to me.
ReplyDeleteI thought your best friend was going to be silence. Stop thwarting my preconceived notions with your clever well-written plot twists!
ReplyDeleteI like this question game a whole lot.
ReplyDelete"Silence unfurling itself like tendrils" is so much my favorite description at this very moment.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I missed the part in the "Best Friend Rulebook" where it recommends that best friends be absent... or mean. Obviously, I don't read very carefully or interpret very well. *sigh*
So is mine. :(
ReplyDeleteh!a! - maybe these maps and legends have been misunderstood.
ReplyDeletesir - take your instinct by the reins; your better best to rearrange.
jennie! - silly rule golden words make; practice, practice makes perfect, perfect is a fault, and fault lines change.
eclectic - i wear my own crown of sadness and sorrow,
and who'd of thought tomorrow could be so strange?
mg! - the ocean sang, the conversation's dimmed;
go build yourself another dream, this choice isn't mine.

I should have known.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love moon imagery.
Also, 'seems the block just became the bitch of you.
i'm pining for the moon, and what if there were two side by side in orbit around the fairest sun?
